Research and Scholarship: OYASAF supports research in the visual arts, making the collection and facilities available to Nigerian and international scholars. In 2009 we inaugurated the OYASAF Fellows program, which brings up to six graduate students from abroad to spend a month in Nigeria pursuing their research projects in Nigerian arts, with particular emphasis on research projects involving the OYASAF collection of contemporary Nigerian art. Publications: OYASAF commissioned a catalog of the traditional pieces in the collection. A commemoration of the work and life of Lamidi Fakeye is scheduled for Art and Art Education in Nigeria: Through grants, competitions, and exhibition loans OYASAF encourages Nigerian artists, and encourages Nigerian students at all levels to appreciate and study the cultural riches of the country.
OYASAF documentary photography project: After two successful photography competition in 2009 and 2010, OYASAF in 2011, commenced documenting major cultural events and sceneries. Our main emphasis is photo documenting Nigeria but also covering West Africa using our own facilities and in house documentary photographer. That way OYASAF is building and has built an enviable set of photographs on Nigeria and environ, some of which can be assessed in our weekly update on OYASAF blog.
